The Jeffrey R. Solomon
Prize

Nominate an Educator

Thank you for your interest in nominating someone for the Jeffrey R. Solomon Prize. The role of the nominator is crucial as it requires you to both promote a particular candidate for this award and ensure that the nominee is aware of all requirements, deadlines, and commitments. Please note that you may only nominate one person in a given year.

To begin the nomination process, please complete the
 Nomination Form which will ask you to submit:

  • Information about the nominee;

  • Information about yourself;

  • A Written Statement describing the nominee's exceptional contributions through their impact on Jewish young adults when in the role of madrich(a) on Birthright Israel trips, and similarly through their Jewish professional work.

Upon submitting your nomination, the nominee will be notified via email. This Notice of Nomination will provide information about the prize and detail how the nominee must proceed. Birthright Israel requires that all nominees submit their completed dossier (i.e. Nominee Application and Letters of Support) by the submission deadline.

As mentioned above, each nominee must have two Letters of Support written on their behalf from people who can provide testimonials to their worthiness in being considered for this award. The nominee will be responsible for identifying and reaching out to these people, and ensuring that each Letter of Support is properly submitted. Letters should be solicited from people who know the nominee in various contexts. We require one letter from a Birthright Israel participant (for whom the nominee was their trip staff); and the other from either a Jewish professional colleague or supervisor; a hiring Trip Organizer staff member; or a community member who has been the recipient of assistance, guidance, teaching, and mentorship.

Selection Procedures and Notification

All completed nominations will undergo a process of review. During this time, Birthright Israel staff may request additional information from you. The Chair of the Selection Committee will advise all nominators, nominees, and the award recipient of the final determinations.
